EPA adds Matteo site in NJ to Superfund list

A former battery-breaking site near Paulsboro, N.J., part of which remains active as a scrapyard, has been designated for a Superfund clean-up by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Matteo & Sons Inc. was started in 1961 by the grandfather of the current owner, Frank Matteo. The business is now a five-acre processing yard with six employees, doing local, over-the-scale business in both ferrous and nonferrous scrap on Crown Point Road in Thorofare, N.J.
Matteo declined to discuss the Superfund announcement.....
