Russian ferrous exports to fall to 2 million tonnes by ’08 Mair

Exports of ferrous scrap from Russia could fall to 2 million tonnes per year by 2008 due to the growth of the domestic steel industry's use of electric furnaces, an executive with Mair Industrial Group, Russia's largest ferrous scrap processor, said this week.

The reduction in exports of iron and steel scrap has already started, he said, with 2006 exports expected to total about 12 million tonnes, 3 million tonnes lower than a year earlier.....
