Detroit council OKs measures for stricter scrap enforcement

Detroit City Council has voted to strengthen two ordinances regulating scrapyards and neighborhood peddlers.

The measures follow draft texts that were circulating at the beginning of this month (AMM, Nov. 6).

From an enforcement standpoint, the main change is to outlaw traveling scrap gatherers who lack a truck registered for the purpose and a surety bond. Enforcement probably will begin March 1.....
