Argentina’s mining sector gains momentum

Argentina will post record results in 2006 as policies to develop the mining sector bear fruit amid the high commodity price environment, mining sub-secretary Jorge Mayoral said.
Exploration metres drilled increased above expectations to about 480,000 metres as total investment in the sector leapt an estimated 50 percent to 6.9 billion pesos ($2.2 billion) from 4.6 billion pesos in 2005. "We have grown above our expectations. We thought exploration investment would grow 15 percent this year but in actuality it is about 20 percent," Mayoral said.....
