Union leaders from Brazil's Cia. Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) are spending the week in Sudbury, Ontario, with their Canadian counterparts to open the lines of communication and forge a strong global relationship.

The meeting is part of the United Steelworkers union's global outreach program intended to strengthen union relationships in times of large-scale buyouts.

"As a global nickel mining union, the USW has an ongoing relationship with the Central Única dos Trabalhadores, a large and dynamic Brazilian labor federation," Wayne Fraser, USW Ontario/Atlantic director, said. "At the same time, our union represents virtually every production and maintenance CVRD Inco employee in Canada, plus hundreds of office and technical staff."....
