Aluminum premiums slip, but pickup seen next year

U.S. Midwest aluminum premiums continue to drift lower in a slow market, but contract premiums for 2007 show early strength.
"December is quite different," one producer said of the end-of-year slowdown. He said spot activity was taking place at premiums of around 4.25 cents per pound, but customers were booking next year's business at between 5.5 and 5.75 cents per pound for 12-month contracts.
