USW counsel Bernard Kleiman dies [UPDATE]

Bernard Kleiman, a longtime attorney and the United Steelworkers union's chief steel industry negotiator, died Wednesday of cardiac arrest.

Kleiman, of Pittsburgh, was 78. His career with the union spanned 46 years, serving as general counsel from 1965 through 1997 and most recently as special counsel.

The USW said that although he officially retired during the summer, Kleiman continued to work, remaining involved in the union's strike against Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as well as in negotiations surrounding seven Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. facilities.....
