Amfire receives permit to develop coal mine in Pa. [UPDATE]

Amfire Mining Co., Latrobe, Pa., has received a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to open a new underground coal mine in Cresson Township, Cambria County, Pa.
Amfire was originally intended as the source of coal for a proposed adjacent coke plant. Construction of the coke plant, however, proposed by another company, was withdrawn months ago.....
