Alcan to build AP50 smelter at Quebec site

Alcan Inc., Montreal, plans to build a $550-million pilot plant using the company's proprietary AP50 smelting technology at its Jonquiere, Quebec, site.
The pilot plant, expected to produce approximately 60,000 tonnes of aluminum per year, will be part of a platform for future generations of AP50 technology.
The plant is the initial step in a projected 10-year, $1.8-billion investment program in Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. The overall investment will increase primary aluminum production capacity by 450,000 tonnes and create 750 new jobs.....
