New IAM officers to keep AK talks on course

Dec 15, 2006 | 08:53 AM | Scott Robertson

Newly elected officers of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 1943 are not expected to significantly change the direction of contract talks with AK Steel Corp., Middletown, Ohio, which is a good thing according to the president of the local.

Brian C. Daley, president of IAM Local 1943, said talks between the union and company aimed at ending a lengthy lockout of Middletown Works employees are headed in the right direction. "The changes the company made (in a contract proposal delivered to the union Dec. 13) were a move in the right direction," he said. "We're there on a number of issues. We hope to get this buttoned up soon."....
