Mittal Steel USA confirms furnace breakout at Burns Harbor plant

Blast furnace problems at the Burns Harbor, Ind., plant of Mittal Steel USA Inc., Chicago, are continuing, with a plan to take down a furnace for maintenance ultimately resulting in the need for more work.
The company experienced at least one—and possibly as many as three—breakouts on the C blast furnace at the plant Thursday. The breakout(s) occurred as the furnace was being brought back up after it had been taken down for routine maintenance.....
