Barrick may make offer for Freeport analyst

Barrick Gold Corp. might make an offer for Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. to increase its reserves and lower operating costs, according to a CIBC World Markets Inc. analyst.
Freeport, which has made a $26-billion friendly offer for copper producer Phelps Dodge Corp., owns the giant Grasberg Mine in Indonesia, where sales are expected to total about 1.7 million ounces of gold and 1.2 billion pounds of copper this year.....
