Timken mulls expansion to serve transplants

Timken Co., Canton, Ohio, is considering expanding its offerings to better serve transplant automakers.

Salvatore J. Miraglia Jr., president of Timken's Steel Group, said his company has begun an internal investigation into whether it should enlarge its Harrison plant in Canton to begin making smaller-diameter bar than currently produced by the steelmaker.

The bar, down to 1 inch in diameter, would find a ready market among automakers, some of which Timken already serves with larger-size bar.....
