Alma contract talks go down to wire

Contract negotiations at Alcan Inc.'s Alma primary aluminum smelter in Quebec continued Monday with both management and labor representatives expressing the desire to settle before the current pact expires Dec. 31.
"Contact has been made through a mediator and we continue to speak with the union representatives," a spokeswoman for Montreal-based Alcan said. "The bargaining process is in a critical and decisive phase and we continue to try to find an amicable solution."....
