Nucor keeps product prices on an even keel in January

Merchant bar prices will remain flat heading into the New Year, although buyers might wind up paying a little more come February.

Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., which is generally considered the pricing leader, said in a letter to customers that it will increase its scrap surcharge on reinforcing bar and merchant bar by $10 per net ton (50 cents per hundredweight) effective with Jan. 1 shipments but will drop base prices by the same amount. Other producers are following suit.....
