Global output of crude steel climbs in Nov.

Fourth-quarter production cutbacks by North American steelmakers did little to offset a continuing surge in world crude steel production in November, according to statistics released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), Brussels.
The 62 countries reporting to the IISI produced 104.2 million tonnes in November, a 10.3-percent increase from approximately 94.5 million tonnes in the same month last year. For the first 11 months of 2006, output of slightly more than 1.1 billion tonnes was 8.9 percent higher than approximately 1 billion tonnes a year earlier.
Asia, and particularly China, was the driving force behind the growth. China, India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan produced a combined 57.6 million tonnes in November, up 18.2 percent from 48.7 million tonnes in November 2005, pushing the year-to-date total to 589.2 million tonnes, 12.5 percent ahead of 523.7 million tonnes last year.....
