WCI settles conservation case with EPA

WCI Steel Inc., Warren, Ohio, will pay approximately $1.7 million as part of a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency related to claims against its parent company related to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

The agreement includes a $625,000 settlement payment and reflects liabilities incurred by WCI when it acquired the assets of the predecessor company May 1.

Under terms of the agreement, WCI will work to minimize potential risks to migratory birds and other wildlife that may enter contaminant areas located within its 1,100-acre plant site. ....
