Sparse spot sales of silicon expected in 2007

With most silicon consumers locking up purchases for next year via annual contracts, the virtual standstill in spot market sales of silicon metal is expected to continue well into 2007.

Spot prices for silicon metal are still in a range of 90 to 94 cents per pound, traders said. "Everyone is finished," one trader said. "They bought what they had to buy, so prices are staying in that range."....
