CMC plans to build ‘micro mill’ in Arizona [UPDATE]

Commercial Metals Co. (CMC), Irving, Texas, is moving to expand its reach in the southwestern United States with plans to build a "micro-mill" somewhere around Phoenix.
The $130-million project, scheduled to go online in early 2009, will be a "focused factory," producing about 280,000 tons of reinforcing bar annually, CMC said Wednesday.
The mill will be a "continuous continuous" operation, meaning melting, casting and rolling will be carried out in one long, uninterrupted process, CMC executives said.
The steelmaker and recycler is working with equipment manufacturer Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche SpA, Buttrio, Italy, on the project, which will be more compact than standard mini-mills and have lower initial capital construction costs, executives said.....
