Spirit AeroSystems sees aluminum scrap bids tilt upward in 1st quarter

Aluminum scrap prices at the quarterly auction by aerospace manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems Inc. rose an average of 9.5 percent from the fourth quarter.
However, individual grades of scrap Spirit will be generating in the first quarter of 2007 displayed widely different tilts, ranging from flat to a gain of 19 percent.
The list of winning bidders closely resembles the September round, with briquetted borings going to Wabash Alloys LLC, Wabash Ind.; aluminum plate remnants to Kaiser Aluminum Corp., Foothill Ranch, Calif.; 2000-series alloy solids to Kamen Inc., Wichita; and mixed aluminum solids to Cimco Resources Inc., Roscoe, Ill. Wabash and Kaiser consume the scrap in their own furnaces.....
