Ameristeel’s N.J. workers ratify new labor agreement [UPDATE]

It's last in, first out of negotiations for workers at Gerdau Ameristeel Corp.'s wire rod mill in Perth Amboy, N.J.
Production and maintenance workers there ratified a new labor deal with the Tampa, Fla.,-based steelmaker Thursday, according to the company. The deal is in effect from now to July 19, 2009.
Company executives and union officials could not be reached for comment Friday.
However, in a statement, Mark Quiring, vice president of Ameristeel's New Jersey mills, said, "The company is pleased to have this contract completed. It provides a basis for a solid working relationship going forward." ....
