Ameristeel mill workers ratify new labor pact

The last of seven labor contracts to expire at Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. mills has been resolved first.
Production and maintenance workers at Ameristeel's wire rod mill in Perth Amboy, N.J., ratified a new labor deal Thursday, according to the company. The contract runs through July 19, 2009.
Company executives and union officials could not be reached for comment Friday. However, Mark Quiring, vice president of Ameristeel's New Jersey mills, said in a statement "The company is pleased to have this contract completed. It provides a basis for a solid working relationship going forward." ....
