Imports pinch W. Coast flat roll; prices fall $40/T

The flat-rolled carbon steel market has slid perceptively on the West Coast during the past three weeks, with a growing number of mills globally looking to fill their rolling schedules at a time when end-market consumption has fallen, and quoted prices are down in some cases as much as $40 a ton.

While imports of galvanized and cold-rolled sheet have been a market factor for much of this year—particularly from China and Taiwan—more hot rolled is being offered from abroad with relatively short lead times. China has been largely absent because of standing dumping orders on hot rolled, although other Asian producers are more active.....
