Freeport offer for Phelps Dodge receives US antitrust clearance

U.S. antitrust authorities have approved Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.'s takeover bid for fellow copper producer Phelps Dodge Corp.

An investigation into the proposed $25.9-billion deal has been conducted and no further action will take place, a spokesman for the Federal Trade Commission said.....
