US imports fall 11% in Nov. but ‘06 sets record

Lead by a decline in imports of semi-finished steel, overall U.S. steel imports fell 11 percent in November from the previous month and 20 percent from the peak level seen in July.
November imports totaled a preliminary 3.39 million tons compared with 3.82 million tons in October, according to preliminary Census Bureau data.
On a year-to-date basis, however, U.S. steel imports totaled 42.24 million tons through November, up 45 percent from the first 11 months of 2005 and already nearly 2 percent higher than the previous record set in 1998.....
