In Canada, e-crackdowns are a private matter

Canadian authorities have been cracking down on illegal shipments of potentially hazardous forms of electronic scrap to China, but they don't want to embarrass minor violators.

That's what the Canada Border Service Agency said, boasting assessments of Canadian $50,801 ($43,900) against 27 Canadian companies shipping hazardous recyclables and waste to China from the Port of Vancouver, British Columbia. Such administrative penalties don't require a company to admit illegal activity, an agency spokesman said. Without an admission or a conviction in court, public identification isn't appropriate, he added.....
