Delphi awarded more funding for DRW

Automotive supplier Delphi Corp. has been awarded an additional $950,000 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Michigan Research Institute to continue development of its deformation resistance welding (DRW) technology.
The new funding is expected to develop technology for both ferrous and nonferrous materials and to develop dissimilar material joints, lean tubular structures and concepts for manufacturing cells.
The company had received two previous grants totaling $2.17 million that were used to perfect existing welding techniques, create new ones and find new ways to use the technology on suspension subframes. This project, funded by the new grant, is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.....
