Asarco labor talks continue as contract expiration looms

Labor negotiations at U.S. copper producer Asarco LLC are set to go down to the wire as the current contract expiration date nears.
Union leaders are still locked in talks with the Tucson, Ariz.,-based company as both sides try and hammer out a deal ahead of the Dec. 31 expiration.
Negotiations were continuing and union leaders weren't returning calls this week, an Asarco spokesman said.
However, a source close to the company said that a deal was close and that both sides remained confident an agreement could be reached before the deadline.....
