W. Coast carbon plate tags holding steady for January

A strong backlog of projects appears to be holding up the carbon steel plate market on the West Coast following a temporary falloff in the price of some trade products earlier this month.
Plate consumption continues to be healthy despite what are said to be large inventories at certain service centers and an earlier temporary decline in pipe production that reportedly freed up mill tonnage, market sources said.
Consequently, trade plate prices for January have pretty much stabilized at December's level after falling some $20 to $30 a ton from November, market sources said.....
