Asarco, union near new deal, extend old pact

Union leaders representing workers at copper producer Asarco LLC have agreed with the company to extend the current labor contract due to expire Dec 31 as both parties look set to secure a new agreement.
A source close to the talks said that a new deal was close to being reached and the United Steelworkers union was expected to put it before workers for ratification early in the New Year.....
