Beta Steel fined $18,000 in death of worker

Beta Steel Corp. and a contractor face fines totaling $39,000 in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man while he was working as a contractor at the Portage, Ind., steelmaker.

Beta Steel has been assessed fines of $18,000 and Eagle Services Corp. of Burns Harbor, Ind., has been assessed fines of $21,000, according to the Indiana Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).....
