Elkhart Metals eyes Jan. startup of new shredder yard in Indiana

Elkhart Metals, owned by Sturgis Iron & Metal Co., Sturgis, Mich., plans commercial startup in January of a new shredder at a plant in Elkhart, Ind.
The core equipment is from Wendt Corp., Tonawanda, N.Y. The 8,000-horsepower configuration is expected to process up to 400 tonnes an hour, with car hulks as a major feed, putting it in competition with an OmniSource Corp. shredder in Fort Wayne, Ind.....
