UK auto recycling unlikely to meet goal

Recoverable metals account for 74.48 percent of Britain's cars and trucks by weight, based on the demolition of 400 test vehicles, according to two British consultants helping their government prepare for European Union vehicle recycling standards.
The EU goal is for the recycling ratio, including non-metallics, to reach 85 percent next year in each of the member countries.
The United Kingdom is unlikely to surpass 80 percent, according to a source at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, who said that some EU nations have estimated figures much closer to 85 percent-but statistical fudge factors might have come into play.....
