Nucor's net off in qtr., up in 1st 9 months

Energy and raw materials costs dragged Nucor Corp.'s third-quarter profit down 29.7 percent to $291.9 million while lower realized prices helped slice its sales to $3.03 billion, down 6.6 percent from the year-earlier quarter.
But the results beat Wall Street estimates, and analysts called it a good quarter for the Charlotte, N.C.,-based steelmaker despite the cost and energy pressures.Nucor posted income before taxes in the most recent quarter of $446.7 million, down from $635.4 million in the comparable quarter last year.....
