Escondida Norte's copper production starts

Copper production has started at the Escondida Norte expansion of the BHP Billiton-controlled Minera Escondida Ltda. mine in Chile.

The Escondida Norte pit, about three miles from the Escondida Mine, has cost more than $400 million to develop. It will enable the company to maintain production at 1.2 million tonnes per year.....
