Indian government to eliminate 5% ferrous scrap import duty

The Indian government will remove a 5-percent import duty imposed on ferrous scrap traders within the next few months, which should further open up the Indian import market.

The Indian government currently applies the tariff on traders but not on "actual users" of the material, said Iqbal Nathani of Nathani Group of Companies, a Mumbai-based scrap processor and trader. India imports about 3 million tonnes of ferrous scrap per year.....
