Import definitions stress China growing pains

China's scrap industry is expanding, but the nation is having some growing pains as it works to define and list what types of scrap metals can't be imported, a Beijing-based metals consultant said.
In remarks prepared for delivery at AMM's China Impact and Outlook conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, Li Hongwei, general manager of Metrust Consulting Co. Ltd., said the country hasn't yet established a stable set of definitions for restricted imported scrap and waste materials. As a consequence, he said, valuable and adaptable scrap, such as aluminum used beverage cans (UBCs), are listed in a prohibited category.....
