JFE Steel to slice 500,000 tonnes from first-quarter production plan

JFE Steel Corp., Tokyo, plans to cut output by 500,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2006 in an effort to reduce domestic inventories and offset a rise in imports of sheet from China, a company spokesman said.
The cuts come on top of a previously announced 500,000-tonne reduction in fourth-quarter output. The company said earlier this month that it would reduce production in the first quarter, though this is the first time it has attached a figure to the planned cuts.....
