AK Steel sees opportunities in electrical steel

Continued strong demand for electrical steel is putting a jolt in AK Steel Corp., Middletown, Ohio, to expand capacity for the product.
"It's a niche market we continue to look at for the long run as to how we continue to capitalize on it," James Wainscott, AK Steel's president and chief executive officer, told analysts during a conference call. "At this point in time, we can't make enough. We're trying to reallocate our tonnage."
Electrical steel is a market that AK Steel has a strong position in given that it and Allegheny Technologies Inc., Pittsburgh, are the only two domestic producers of the product, which is used to make electrical transformers and generators.....
