Barrick Gold Corp.'s unsolicited $9.2-billion Halloween bid for fellow gold miner Placer Dome Inc. has generated reverberations and speculation throughout the global mining industry.
Initial talk surrounded Placer's reaction. The Vancouver, British Columbia,-based company issued a statement saying its board of directors will meet to consider the bid and it "will not comment on the offer or its content and will not speculate as to any future course of action it might take."....
