Congo clears Tenke copper-cobalt project

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has approved the development of the Tenke Fungurume copper-cobalt project in Katanga province.
Phelps Dodge Corp., Phoenix, said Wednesday it had exercised its option to take a controlling interest in the project. A draft feasibility study on Tenke prepared by Kilborn SNC Lavalin suggested that an open-pit mine could support annual production of 100,000 tonnes of copper and 8,000 tonnes of cobalt, with....
