Customs answers question on tantalum scrap

Imported tantalum scrap is free of any duties-but not if the material is briquetted. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued the finding in response to a query from a unit of Bayer Corp.
"The rate of duty will be 2.5 percent," the Customs letter said. "You suggest that the product is properly classified as waste and scrap. However, the puck, also known as a briquette, is provided for as an unwrought....
