Self sufficiency still a ways off for China aluminum scrap BIR

China will remain dependent on global markets for the supply of aluminum scrap despite Beijing's goal of making the country nearly self sufficient by 2010, according to the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), Brussels, Belgium.
The Chinese government's target is "highly ambitious" and will clash with the longer-term target of producing 60 percent of aluminum from secondary sources by 2020, Peter Mathews, vice president of BIR's nonferrous division, said at the 5th Secondary Metals Forum in Guangzhou, in southern China. Mathews is also managing director of Black Country Metals Ltd., a British scrap metals trader.....
