Aluminum exports ease despite China surge

U.S. exports of aluminum scrap slipped slightly in September despite shipments to China reaching a new high for the second consecutive month.
China (including Hong Kong) took 63.8 percent of the tonnage shipped abroad in September, up from 61 percent the previous month, according to the latest statistics from the U.S. Commerce Department. By value, China's share rose to 61 percent from 58 percent.
In the first nine months of this year, China's reported intake of 455,196 short tons was 83.6 percent ahead of 247,867 tons in the same period last year, but some market participants tend to doubt the reported pace of the Chinese increase.....
