Consol's Buchanan Mine restart delayed by hoist repair setbacks

Setbacks in repairs at the Buchanan metallurgical coal mine have prompted Consol Energy Inc. to push back the mine's reopening to mid- to late December.
The mine's skip hoist, which lifts coal to the surface, was damaged in a Sept. 16 accident, forcing the mine to suspend coal production (AMM, Sept. 20). The entire skip hoist structure is about 1,780 feet high, the equivalent....
