Freeport predicts lower 4th-qtr. production at Indonesian mine

Fourth-quarter production of copper and gold at Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.'s Indonesian mine will fall short of expectations because of lower-than-expected ore grades.

Copper production at the Grasberg open-pit mine is currently 5 percent below previous estimates of 480 million pounds, while gold production is 10 percent below estimates of 1.1 million ounces, the company announced Tuesday from its temporary headquarters in Baton....
