Indian company picks Oregon site for shipbreaking operation

The U.S. Defense Department's efforts to dispose of its "Ghost Fleet" ships has spawned a West Coast sequel.
An Indian company that quietly purchased the shipbreaking component of Bay Bridge Enterprises LLC in Chesapeake, Va., is planning a similar operation in Newport, Ore.
The Virginia ship salvage facility has belonged to Adani Group of Ahmedabad, India, since mid-2005.
The shipbreaking operation was part of Bay Bridge when Sims Group Ltd., Sydney, Australia, purchased the Virginia export scrapyard in 2004. However, some small print in the deal left the shipbreaking facility in the hands of its old owner, although Sims became the landlord.....
