Hard coking coal outlook upbeat, but other grades said in for '06 fall

Next year's benchmark prices for hard coking coal are expected to remain on par with this year, but semi-soft and pulverized coal injection (PCI) products will fall between 10 and 20 percent, analysts in Australia said.

"Twelve months ago the Japanese had no inventory of coking coal, and we saw the big price rise, but now they are sitting on a comfortable inventory, particularly of semi-soft and PCI coals," a Melbourne-based analyst said. "Premium brands of hard coking coal are still hard to come by and I expect them to only come off slightly or roll over, but the others will fall to....
