US might gain e-cycling system edge as UK rules head for redraft

The United Kingdom's lead over the United States in developing an electronics recycling system might be eroding, according to published reports.
Based on a European Union edict, the U.K. goal has been to have a "producer responsibility" system-requiring electronics manufacturers to pay for recycling-in place by next June.
On this side of the Atlantic, Maine has enacted a similar recycling structure, although the law isn't yet operative. California chose a very different path, requiring buyers of new equipment to pay a recycling fee.....
