Workers who have been laid off from their jobs at Mittal Steel USA's Weirton, W.Va., plant will be able to hear why from a very good source this week. Mittal Steel USA chief executive officer Lou Schorsch will hold a special meeting with Weirton's active and laid-off employees Tuesday to discuss the shutdown of the mill's ironmaking and steelmaking facilities.
Mittal Steel USA said late last month it wouldn't restart the blast furnace at Weirton anytime soon, leaving up to 800 employees out of work, and would reconfigure the plant around its successful tinplating operations (AMM, Dec. 1).....
